DIGICEL LAUNCHES NEW MOBILE PHONE TOWER IN SANTO
April 4th 2011 - Launch in SantoMonday 4th April, 2011 - Digicel, the fastest growing telecommunications operator launched a new mobile tower in Luganville, Santo. This latest tower launch is just one of a number in a large scale investment programme that Digicel is currently undertaking across Vanuatu to improve coverage and network performance in certain areas for local communities.
A warm welcome was received for Digicel in Santo by a large crowd cheering ‘Digicel i tuff tumas’ at the Unity Park, Luganville Santo . The invited guests attending the official launch ceremony at the bandstand included Mr. Francois Baba, Luganville Municipality Town Clerk and Mr. Aturay Edward of Sanma Police Force. The opening ceremony was marked with a prayer by Father Tari.
Entertainment for all in attendance was provided by well known local string band Toko Sawia. As well as music, there was fantastic Hip-hop dance performance and a fun quiz then took place from the stage, hosted by David Sweeney, Commercial Director at Digicel. Lucky winners received 1,000VT top up as prizes. To mark the special occasion and to add to festivities of the day, there were also phones available for purchase at a special promotional price.
Mr. Francois Baba Luganville Municipality Town Clerk said “We really appreciate what Digicel has done for the community reaching out to areas which in the past had to rely on limited coverage. Digicel launching has enabled the community to have access to better communication with their families around Vanuatu and the world”.
Digicel Vanuatu’s Commercial Director, David Sweeney commented “Digicel is proud to have successfully launched in Santo, adding this new tower to our ever growing network and further strengthening Digicel as Vanuatu’s Bigger Better network” he also went on to thank the people of Santo for their heartwarming welcome to the island.”
