Digicel Vanuatu launches two new mobile phone towers on Malekula this week, both will be officially unveiled tomorrow,  Wednesday May 25th with special launch ceremonies and festivities taking place at each location.   One of the new towers is in Atchin in the north east of the island; the other is at Leviamp in the north west. A new tower on Assuk Hill near Lamap already launched last week - which brings to three the number of new towers on Malekula that Digicel has committed to delivering in May. These new tower roll-outs represent a significant investment on behalf of Digicel and underpin the company’s commitment to communities on Malekula by provide better, more reliable network coverage for the island.

 

At the launch of the tower at Assuk Hill near Lamap last Wednesday, there was a large crowd of approximately 150 people attending, despite the very heavy rain. The official launch at Assuk Hill was opened with a prayer by Father Jule Nako and was followed by a warm welcome from Mr Lulu Victor, Area Council secretary.  The ceremony closed with the presentation of gifts by Digicel to all of the 18 invited guests. Following formalities,  there was entertainment, refreshments and a fun quiz with prize giveaways for the local community attending.

 

Prime Minister Sato Kilman expressed his appreciation of Digicel’s investment in Malekula. He said that “the  provision of additional towers would ensure better communication between families and friends for the people of Malekula as well as between local businesses and traders which is vital to the prosperity of the island

These three tower launches on Malekula form part of Digicel Vanuatu’s wider program of network expansion and improvements which commenced roll out in March and have continued throughout April and May. These new towers have been launched the length and breadth of Vanuatu, covering all provinces with new tower completions on  Ambae, Ambrym, Moto Lava, Pentecost, Paama, Santo, Tanna and Vanua Lava.
