This year’s Kiwanis Charitable Race Day toted as the biggest social event in Port Vila, Vanuatu, It is a colorful tropical island version of the Melbourne Cup.

It was held on the 18^th July 2009.

The event attracted approximately 10,000 race goers from all over the world and is the commencement of Vanuatu’s Independence celebrations.  

The majority of the jockeys have grown up riding wild horses without bridles, helmets and most often go bare foot. They train with fierce intensity to the best of their ability.

Digicel Vanuatu was a proud sponsor of the Charitable Races this year. Digicel had a magnificent marquee which was decorated colorfully with a tropical theme, catering for more than 200 people.

The money the corporate companies donate to this charity goes towards building, repainting and renovating schools in Vanuatu. It also funded the landscaping of the area behind the Port Vila central public library, part of the committee’s ongoing beautification efforts.
